Freecycle is truly a wonderful idea. It's made up of many individual groups across the globe, and is a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns.
Ever hear of "regifting"? Sometimes people receive things they have no use for...and instead of putting them by the curb or throwing them out, they'll offer them to others who find it of value. I've seen printers, books, clothing, new in the box household items etc. offered at Freecycle.
